Which Vitamin Do You Need?
Is vitamin D better than D3?
Spring greetings!
I have had several reach out to me with some good questions about the difference between vitamin D and D3. Is one better than the other? Do they do different things? Should I take both?
• Vitamin D and D3 are both fat-soluble.
• Vitamin D comes from plant-based sources like mushrooms, some grains, and orange juice
•Vitamin D3 is produced in the skin when it is exposed to sunlight. D3 is also derived from aminal-based sources such as egg yolks, fatty fish oils, and liver.
While both forms of vitamin D are effective at raising blood levels of vitamin D, studies have shown that vitamin D3 is more effective at increasing and maintaining levels of vitamin D in the blood. Vitamin D3 compared to Vitamin D is more sustainable and has a longer shelf life because of this doctors tend to prescribe Vitamin D3 over vitamin D.
Regardless having vitamin D is essential to your well-being in either form and for maintaining good health.
