Don't Throw Out Your Seeds

Here's Why You Should Never Throw Out Papaya Seeds.

I must confess the only reason I buy papayas are for the seeds. I find papayas to be an acquired taste as they are less sweet than other tropical fruits and have a hint of spice to them. Nonetheless, they are a  healthy option and quite popular around the world.

But did you know papaya seeds can and should be eaten?

Classified as a melon,  papayas have small black seeds. These seeds not only resemble black peppercorn but they smell and taste like pepper too!

The best way to use papaya seeds is to roast them. Yes, you can eat them raw but I found by roasting them they are more versatile and tend to last longer.

Roasting instructions:

Once you have your papaya seeds removed from the fruit, rinse them clean. Allow the seeds to drip dry or dry with a paper towel so the seeds will dry faster in the oven.

Preheat your oven to 120 degrees.

Using a baking sheet, line it with parchment paper to create a non-stick surface.

Place the seeds on the tray and spread them out evenly.

Bake the seeds in the oven for about 90 minutes or until they’re dried.

Stir them occasionally for even drying.

Let the seeds cool before storing them in an air-tight container. If you'd like you can ground them up and put them in a pepper shaker and use it in place of pepper.

Papaya seeds offer a slew of health benefits that make this a must-have in your daily diet.

Kidneys:

Papaya seeds protect the kidneys.

Researchers at the University of Karachi have found that papaya seeds can be used to improve kidney health in cases of kidney disease and prevent kidney failure.

Recommendation to keep kidneys at optimal health: Chew 7 papaya seeds, 7 times a day

Liver:

Papaya seeds cleanse the liver.

The liver is an important organ, its function is to filter toxins to prevent disease. When the liver is overrunerran by toxins we run the risk of developing chronic diseases.

Papaya seeds support the liver and toxin removal.

A person experiencing hepatic cirrhosis would see improvement by using Papaya seeds using this Remedy:

Grind 5 papaya seeds, mix with a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and drink this mixture twice a day for a month.

Intestinal Health:

Papaya seeds are rich in enzymes papain and chymopapain, which improve digestion by breaking down hard-to-process protein.

Anti-inflammatory:

Papaya seeds are anti-inflammatory, making them beneficial for relieving arthritis, joint swelling, pain, and redness.

Destroys parasites:

Papaya seeds contain an alkaloid called "Carpaine" which kills intestinal worms and parasites.

To do this, all you have to do is dry the seeds and then grind them. Then dilute a spoonful of this powder in filtered water, and boil it. You can add some raw honey to your liking. Drink this 2-3 times a day.

Eating papaya fruit also makes the gastrointestinal tract extremely hostile to the life and development of parasites.

CAUTION

Although, there are many great benefits to consuming papaya seeds, remember it is good only in small amounts. Excessive consumption can lead to side effects, including pregnancy-related problems.

Pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding should not use papaya seeds.

Do not give papaya seeds to young children without consulting a doctor as parasite cleanses using papaya seeds can be too potent for their gastrointestinal tract.

Do not consume if you are allergic to latex. Unripe papaya fruit contains papaya latex, which contains an enzyme called papain. Taking large amounts of papain might damage the esophagus.

Papayas are usually sold year-round at most supermarkets but come into season in early summer and early fall. I encourage you to pick one up and enjoy its benefits your body will thank you.
